Grooming  Pixiedust Papillons

Papillons are a long coated breed. Many people think this makes a Papillon dog difficult to groom. Actually, Papillons are supposed to be a single coated breed. The coat texture on a Papillon puppy is described as silky and soft. This makes the coat far less prone to matting and tangling. A good brushing at least once a week can keep a papillons coat from matting. Care should be used when brushing a papillons  coat  around sensitive areas of the groin and behind the ears.

Pixiedust Papillons  have been bred to have long coats and long ear fringe. This will vary with each individual  Papillon puppy and with the type of care it has.

Bathing papillons with a gentle shampoo (baby shampoos work just as well as many dog shampoos)  will keep the coat smelling fresh. Pixiedust Papillons uses a good conditioner (Pantene) to keep the coat soft and tangle free. Depending on the conditions that Papillon puppies live and play in,  will depend on how often papillon puppies need a bath.

Trimming of the long hair on the feet should be done to prevent the Papillons  from picking up mud, snow or debris with it's feet.

Even though it is a long-coated breed, Papillons  are definitely inside dogs and should not be forced to try to survive outdoors in harsh weather.
