Supplies you should have before you get a new
papillon puppy
Many people spend countless hours searching for the right papillon puppy and the right papillon dog breeder. Once you find that perfect little papillonpuppy, a buyer needs to have a few basics on hand to make life and training easier for the owner and the new papillons.
The first thing you should have is a crate of some type. Not too big, or expensive, as this is not to be used as living quarters for your new papillon puppy. The crate is the safest way to travel with your papillon puppy and it is used as bed or den, if you remove the door or leave it open.
An exercise pen--x-pens-- are one of the best pieces of equipment you can buy. 24 to 36 inches high is usually high enough for most papillons. If you find that your papillon puppy develops climbing abilities, a top can be bought for the x-pen. X-pens can be a life saver for both puppy and owner if the owner needs to work every day or for restricting the papillon puppies play area while house training. And x-pen can fold down and travel with you and your papillons and provides a safe exercise or play area. For housetraining papillon puppies, set up an x-pen with the puppy's crate in one corner with food water and toys, and a potty pad and holder in another corner.
Housetraining pads are another very helpful supply to have on hand for a new papillon puppies. We use these year round--our papillons never have to go out in bad weather and the beautiful coats do not drag snow or rain back indoors. For city apartment dwellers, these pads can eliminate walks at inconvenient times. For new papillon puppies, these pads can help with late night needs that a papillon puppy may have. There are holders for these pads to prevent a papillon puppy from playing with the pad and to prevent the pad from slipping when the puppy uses it. None of these are expensive.

One
last thing to help the new owner and the papillon puppy to adjust to
the first night at home is a Snuggle Puppy. These can really help everyone get a
good night's sleep and are worth the money! We have used stuffed toys to
"foster" singleton papillon puppies and seen a definite advantage to having a
snuggle puppy. Here are several places that have them for sale--we are sure there are
more.
