A few tips  to help Housetraining Papillon puppies

Papillon  puppies are small toy breed dogs. The first thing We at Pixiedust Papillons  would like puppy buyers to understand is that it can take up to six months to completely housetrain  Papillon puppies..
Most people are familiar with the concept of crate training. We would like to expand on this type of housetraining for papillons..
First, we recommend a exercise pen instead of a crate to housetrain papillon puppies. A crate is too confining for any period of time. A x-pen has plenty of room for a Papillons bed, food dishes, toys and a place for a potty pad
Many Papillon owners have had good success using these pads. So much so, that they are using the pads exclusively so that they do not have to walk their papillons when the weather is bad or in city streets at night.
Papillon  puppies are active and have high energy needs. This also means they need to eat often. And what goes in must come out. Even when the human is not there to attend to a papillons needs! Papillon  puppies usually will have to "go" several times at night. This may be a terrible inconvenience if you need to get up and go to work. This is why it is easier to use an x-pen, where the papillon puppy has a place to relieve itself.
Trying to keep Papillon puppies in a small crate  in order to force the papillon to "hold it" until you are ready to take the papillon puppy out has not always worked.  In fact, if you are not immediately responsive to papillon puppies needs, it may be forced to relieve itself in the crate. After a few times of doing this, the papillon learns that it may as well not wait for the owner to get relief. By using the pads, you can gradually move the pad to the door and even set the pad outside, to teach papillon puppies to go outside.
The housetraining pads are scented to attract papillon puppies to "go" in that spot. X-pens have other uses and can be helpful throughout the entire life of Papillons. There are many excellent sites listed at the end of this page that offers much more detailed tips for housetraining papillons.
