Pixiedust Papillons  Supports the Philosophy and efforts of Pap 911 rescue  to save Papillons, dogs and puppies, from the same fate as the Bichons described below. We hope those that have a heart to help rescue the papillons  who are the most in need will contribute to Pap 911 Rescue. You may offer donations, your time or your home to rescue a papillon dog or puppy in need.

WHY WE ATTEND PUPPY MILL AUCTIONS

My name is Robin Pressnall. I am the Executive Director of the largest breed rescue in the country called Small Paws Rescue, Inc. Small Paws Rescue.

We rescue the breed Bichon Frise. Let me tell you our views on Puppy Mill Auctions, and why we choose to participate in them. You are welcome to pass this on to any of the other rescue groups, or crosspost to other rescue lists.

Some well meaning people will tell you that we are only lining the pockets of the puppy millers by buying Bichons at commercial kennel auctions. They tell us to ignore these Bichons and just leave them there.

The people who say these things usually have never been to a puppy mill auction or even to a puppy mill.

They have no clue as to how the system really works. Susan Sebring, the co-founder of Small Paws Rescue, and I DO know how the system works. I am going to explain it to you now.

At each puppy mill auction there are hundreds of commercial kennel owners shopping for each and every breed.

SOMEONE is going to walk out of that tent with each and every dog.

SOMEONE is going to get money for each and every dog.

Whether we are there or not, the dog will sell and the selling miller will get money. (We know because we have watched many breeds sell, when there were no rescue people there to bid...the dogs always sell, the selling millers always get the money. The selling price is not higher because rescue is present.)

If it is rescue who gets the dog, that dog LEAVES the system that day, along with the possible 67,000 puppies it can produce in the next six years. (These figures come from the HSUS website for possible births in five years ).

If another commercial kennel gets the dog, the selling miller gets the same amount of money...BUT....the dog leaves and remains in the system, and thus begins the breeding cycle all over again. Many of these dogs have congenital deformities that are passed down through each litter, for years to come.

Our list members send funds for us to try to get those dogs out. Sometimes we are successful, sometimes we are not.

Because of our work at commercial kennel auctions, we believe that we are down to the last couple of hundred Bichons in the commercial kennels of Missouri.
The numbers of Bichons in pet shops have done down to nearly nothing.

Well, this is a little bit about the auctions. I hope I have managed to express, how we feel about the Puppy Mill Auctions, and why we do what we do. Attending Puppy Mill Auctions is something I will never forget, if I live to be a hundred. And for that, I am truly sad. All my love, Robin.
